Mieka Tabart studied classical violin and music theory under Matthews Tyson at the St Cecilia School of Music in Tasmania, Australia, receiving further violin instruction from Jan Sedivka and Peter Tanfield. By age 17, she completed grade eight violin and grade seven music theory in the Trinity College of Music, London syllabuses. She was awarded international exhibition prizes for grades six, seven and eight violin examinations.
Through the St Cecilia School of Music, Mieka obtained early experience performing in string orchestras and quartets, including touring New Zealand with the St Cecilia Chamber Orchestra. In 1990, she attended the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp at Geelong Grammar School, directed by Donald Hazlewood, obtaining symphonic orchestra experience.
As an adult, Mieka performed violin with the Hobart Chamber Orchestra, the Wellington String Quartet and the Australian Doctors Orchestra. She performed original composed and improvised crossover classical / folk / ambient violin, piano, djembe drum and hammered dulcimer with the Ethereal Ensemble, recording three CDs and performing regularly at Moonah Arts Centre and Cygnet Folk Festival, Tasmania. Increasingly, her focus is on composing.
